well-made alarm clock : Seiko Bedside Alarm Clock Black Metallic Case
Prior to buying this clock, I checked these reviews but believed I could put up with the shortcomings mentioned, particularly as I could find nothing else that met my requirements and Seiko is a reputable brand. However, once received and, now, having used it a while, I disagree with most criticisms. The clock isn't easily read in the dark because the fluorescence of the hands don't stand out from that of the clock face. But the little light at the two o'clock position is sufficiently bright for me to read the clock (and I'll need a cataract removed in a year of two). The alarm is loud enough for me at its minimum setting without being overbearing. And the unit is better looking than it appears on the page.
I would advise Seiko to either remove the word "Metallic" or change it to "Metallic-looking" as the outer part of the clock is entirely made of some plastic material and the name could be taken to indicate a metal housing.
